Does Ganesh ji fulfill all your wishes?

We all love Ganesh Ji and recently celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with full energy and joy. But have you ever wondered what changes in those 10 days? Why is the aura so different? Why is the power of prayer so immense?

I made this Mandala art of Ganesh ji back in 2021

No, I do not have the answers to these questions. Nevertheless, what I feel is that prayer is one practice that calms the human body amidst our constant companions known as stress and anxiety. For one it’s a daily routine while for another it’s a call for desperate hope while having lost all other hopes.

The power of belief is so enormous that it has amazing effects on our bodies. Some might call it a placebo effect- and to some extent, it might be! The placebo effect is where a person experiences real improvements in their condition simply because they believe they are receiving treatment, even if that treatment has no active medical ingredients. Prayer and the power of belief go hand in hand. It’s not just about asking for help from a higher power; it’s also about expressing gratitude, finding peace, and focusing the mind.

Numerous followers of god ask for a wish to be fulfilled whether or not it’s possible. Ah, it’s funny to think how one god can listen and fulfill the wishes of so many people! Does God have the bandwidth to listen to all our whining and legitimate prayers? I guess what goes behind this is our perspective and honesty towards work; giving the best shot but not worrying about the result at the same time. That’s what is mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita right?

To be honest, I find this difficult. There are a lot of things that are in your hand while some are just not! In situations like these, trusting the timing is important. Maybe there’s a very slim chance of you getting that one promotion or you get into your dream university that you kept worrying about for months, and suddenly everything just works out!

Ganesh Chaturthi is a beautiful example of devotion, prayer, and release. The ten days are filled with prayer, festivity, and hope, yet the immersion (Visarjan) on the last day teaches us to let go — just as we should let go of control over the results of our efforts, trusting that whatever happens next is for our good.

I remember a time when I was so fixated on one outcome that I couldn’t see beyond it. I kept praying for a specific result, but what happened was entirely different — something I couldn’t have planned, yet was perfect for me. Looking back, I realize that Ganesh Ji didn’t fulfill my wish as I expected, but he gave me something even better.

My recent trip to IIM Bangalore for a business case study competition made me believe that life is very unpredictable. Whenever life throws opportunities at you, don’t say NO. Just grab all of them! We get rare chances to live that happening life. So just say YES and enjoy it! From not believing in myself to stand out in a crowd, to actually making that happen, I could do what I had never thought of. Standing amongst MBA grads while being the youngest one present there was a proud moment for me, which made me realize that yes, I am capable of such things. There are times when we often doubt ourselves but trusting on own-self is as important as it seems.

Lord Ganesh is known as Vignaharta, i.e. the remover of obstacles, but what’s often forgotten is that he teaches us patience and wisdom in overcoming those obstacles. We might want things instantly, but his story reminds us that everything comes at the right moment.

While the world is against you, there’s always a bleak of hope and that hope comes from prayer. You need not necessarily pray to a god, but I feel there is a power beyond science, a higher power of spirituality. If prayer provides relief from anxiety, pain, or fear — even if it’s just through the power of belief — does it matter whether the effect is divine or psychological? What truly matters is that people feel better and content.

Life has a way of working itself out, often in ways we couldn’t have imagined. By trusting the timing, we free ourselves from unnecessary stress and open ourselves up to the possibilities that lie ahead. So, breathe, trust, and keep moving forward — knowing that everything is happening exactly as it should.

While we often pray for what we desire, let’s not forget to express gratitude for what we’ve already been given. Sometimes, in our constant chase for what’s next, we miss out on the beauty of what we already have in our lives. Gratitude helps us see the bigger picture, calming our minds and letting us trust that everything is already in motion.

Take a moment to reflect:

When was the last time something unexpected happened that turned out to be a blessing in disguise? Have you found yourself praying or holding onto hope when everything seemed uncertain? Share your story in the comments — sometimes, these reflections remind us of how powerful belief can be.
