Halley’s Comet- 1986

This is my first ever blog. Yes, it seems scary to put out your thoughts to the public, but the only way to face fear is to face it.

I was in Grade 6 when we were first introduced to Geography subject. I was totally amazed and in love with it. While studying, we came across a very small section of comets. To water my curiosity, I went on reading it and found about The Halley’s Comet. The Halley’s Comet, named after Edmond Halley, is a periodic comet which shows up the sky after every 75 years. The reason why it is so famous is that it marked the first time astronomers understood that comets could be repeat visitors to our night skies.

Then and there, as I read, I had decided to watch this comet. I quickly calculated and figured out that it will be showing next in 2062, realizing that I’ll be as old as 57 years. Well, this is the first ever thing on my bucket list (not revealing others on the list though XD ).

But have you ever wondered why people make a bucket list? Or rather why is it called a “bucket list”?

The words “bucket list” can be considered as a metaphor. Suppose you carry a bucket. You take that bucket and go out to collect the stuff you want. When you find what you want, you put it in your bucket and continue your search till your bucket is full. Just like that, your bucket is your life and the stuff you want to collect are the things you want to do before you live your last day.

That very bucket, is the true purpose of living your life. Apart from career and love, you get to know what you like, you learn to bring about what you relish, you chase your dreams and you fulfill them. Well that’s what dreams are meant for. Explore your strengths and weaknesses and become the best version of yourself. The never-give-up attitude is what takes us ahead in life. Find the purpose, the means will follow.

Decoding life is as simple as this verse:

If you are moving with an eagerness in your heart, then you are alive.

If you are moving with a dream in your mind, then you are alive.

If you are moving with memories to cherish, then you are alive.

If you are moving with your favorite people in life, then you are alive.

If you are moving with resolutions in your thoughts, then you are alive.

If you are moving ahead with enjoying the journey, only then you are alive!

So, what’s on your bucket list?
And please, don’t say skydiving — I’ve heard that one too many times. Besides, who needs to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

For me, it’s all about those rare, extraordinary experiences that you can’t find every day. Like witnessing Halley’s Comet streaking across the sky — a cosmic event that makes you realize just how vast and incredible our universe is, and how divine of a beauty our milky way is! Or maybe something simpler, like finally mastering the art of making a perfect cup of tea (because let’s face it, life’s too short for a bad tea, especially for hardcore tea lovers!).

Say, how about learning to play an instrument (mine one would be a guitar), not to impress anyone, but just to feel the joy of creating music and getting engrossed in it totally? Visiting every continent at least once, not just to say you’ve been there, but to truly immerse yourself in different cultures and perspectives, for travelling transforms you into a new person. Or indulging in your favorite flavor of ice-cream and devouring it like a kid? (oh, I personally love Naturals’ mango flavored ice cream :p )

And yes, while some people dream of bungee jumping, I’m perfectly content keeping my feet on the ground and my head in the stars — literally! Whether it’s stargazing, exploring ancient ruins, or just spending a quiet evening with loved ones, it’s these moments that make life truly magical and special, giving a warm, tight hug of reminiscence to your future-self.

So a simple advice here- seize the day and go fill your bucket!

PS- A date with heavenly fireflies is a better idea than dating a wrong person XD.

If you have reached till here, thank you for reading it till so far! I’ll be posting more :)
